MCIM Project
MCIM Project
Janaagraha first approached Mount Carmel Institute of Management to address the students of the institute in a Saturday workshop, educating the students about the organization and their participation with the youth in solving community issues.
As part of the Community Development Project to be undertaken by the MCIM students, it was decided to partner with Yuva Janaagraha for the year 2007-08. Hence it was decided that the students would spend 80 hours each on a segregation awareness campaign which was required in ward 35, Vijay Nagar.
Objectives of the Yuva Janaagraha are two-fold:
- To create awareness about local govt. & civic participation among students, generate interest among students through training sessions, fests & events
- To give volunteers grassroots experience of participation through civic project
With the aim of acting on the second mentioned objective, Janaagraha approached MCIM with a proposal to work with the students and give them grassroots experience.
I. Aim of the campaign:
- The campaign should create awareness among all the citizens in the ward about the importance of segregation and effectively provide them the information to enable segregation at source.
- The youth in the area have been disconnected from the ward activities. This campaign also aims to rope in the youth of the area and mobilize them to be a part of the ward activities and start becoming active in the Vijayanagar Vedike.
II. Outcome Expected:
- At least in 1 polling booth in the ward, every household and establishment must start segregation of waste at source before disposing the waste
- At least 30 youth from the polling booth must be involved in the campaign and motivated to become active members of the Vijayanagar Vedike
ACHIEVEMENTS:
- Information on ways to implement waste segregation activity communicated
- Need for segregation communicated
- Drawing competition was held successfully in which children of the community participated actively
- Quizzes on waste segregation for different age groups
- Street plays on waste segregation
- Rallies promoting waste segregation with quotes like “be responsible segregate waste”
- Meeting with eminent people of the society and BBMP officers on the last day of the project
