Metro Rail Project:
Metro Rail Project:
Building a metro rails / mono rail is definitely a good idea and is well appreciated. However one needs to look ahead and see what is being implemented on ground today. Has it been well planned or will it add to the commotion.
A simple observation will reveal that we are moving from frying pan into the fire.
Every terminal Bus / Train will have huge number pf passengers boarding in & out and this increase ever day. The best example will be the City Market, K.R.Puram, Cantonment etc… Keeping this in mind one wonders what will happen to MG road once the Metro rail terminal becomes operational. Will MG Road becomes another KR Market?
Take minute & think of the situation. Hundreds of people will come into this terminal to board the Metro rail or exit the Metro. What will they do after exiting the metro rail?
None of them live on MG road. They will either be shoppers on MG Road / Brigade road / Commercial Street or will be people who have to board alternate modes of transport to reach their destination. From where will they board these vehicles? Will they continue to do this from the existing bus stand or are we going to repeat the history of poor connectivity to the airport?
The government needs to think how the passengers will board busses / auto / taxi after descending from the Metro rail. This will mean that a proper bus stand, taxi stand and auto stand has to be planned at the terminal. Since there will be increase in the number of vehicles ferrying in and our of the terminal one must take a long term view and decide whether there is a requirement to expand the existing road to an 8 lane. One has to take a long term view and assume that today’s 2 wheeler riders are tomorrows Nano riders.
What is the use of having a stadium in the middle of MG road? Stadiums must be built on outskirts of any city to avoid the chayos. The stadium on MG Road can be modified to a good bus terminal and this will be helpfull for the entire city. By saying this we are sure that we are inviting the wrath of a lot of sports players. However in the best intrest of the majority of the city dewlerrs it is better that the government builds a stadium in the out skirts and modifies the existing stadium to a bus stand.
We do not want the government to start thinking after the problems crop up and the citizens start complaining. It is better to forsee the future and plan for it. Planning the metro terminal is definitely the first step but there is lot that is still to be done.
Thank you,
Kind regards,
