Dear Volunteers,
Greetings!!
Jaago Re! One Billion Votes [JROBV] reached a significant milestone this week: 1014000 voters and still counting! In this edition you will hear from Ashika, who is instrumental in maintaining the communication and feedback links between the campaign team and the large base of registered voters. We confer the Ribbon of Honour to Kriti for her dedicated work on the JROBV campaign. Sunil working in our grassroots community programme, Shantakumari & Pramila volunteers with Bala Janaagraha tell you about their experiences. Nithya talks about her association with transport related projects.
A wider range of opportunities opened up in Janaagraha this year. Programmes like Ward Infrastructure and Services Assessment[WISA], CityConnect and JROBV have new and interesting avenues for volunteering. You can contribute towards developing indices on infrastructure or conduct mobilisation drives to get the youth to register to vote. These are in addition to your ability to teach children, work on branding and communications, engage in research and reporting in the areas of public policy among many others.
We thank you all for choosing to volunteer with us and contributing towards bringing about change through our collective efforts!

RIBBON OF HONOUR:
Kriti, Volunteer in Jaago Re! One Billion Votes campaign
Kriti has volunteered with us on the National Survey conducted to assess the voting and civic awareness of India's urban youth. This was done as a part of the Jaago Re! One Billion Votes campaign. She came into this project mid-way, and picked up wonderfully from another volunteer who was moving out. She has been an extremely committed volunteer, willing to put in long hours and working largely without supervision. Thanks to her efforts, we were able to complete data collection and verification of over 2500 survey responses from cities across India, in time. She is a perfect example of how volunteers can contribute significant value to Janaagraha's work despite short periods of engagement.

WEARING THE V HAT
Shanthakumari, Bala Janaagraha Volunteer
" I became very aware. We got a lot of experience. It was very interesting. We learnt many things not only from the Bala Janaagraha text but also from the children. We learnt about the spread of disease through pollution. We were equipped with enough information to tell our neighbours about these issues as well. It was useful to us. We would even enjoy teaching the children on more related topics.Even the children enjoy it a lot especially all the activities and projects. They were very interested and receptive ".
Pramila , Bala Janaagraha Volunteer
" We see the children doing a lot of work. Assignments are being given to them regularly along with projects. It is all being done in a very systematic manner as per the guidelines given by the Bala Janaagraha programme for the project work. The children are very happy with the work. On the 12th of November we will be taking the children outside to do the project where they will be taking photos of the conditions around them n then elaborating on those photos with some explanation ".
Sunil Thomas, Assistant Coordinator, Community Leadership Programme
" After my sojourn with another non-profit, I had decided to focus my time and energy with an organization that dealt with civic issues and Janaagraha came to mind quite easily. My first days at Janaagraha were spent behind documents and having one-on-one conversations with different individuals. What struck me right away was that each individual that I met truly had a concern and passion for civic issues and were putting their best foot forward in contributing to the organization’s objectives. This struck a cord in me because I always believed that a concerted and collective action can always have a bigger impact than a one off goodwill gesture and I see this at Janaagraha. Everyday has been a journey of hopefulness and learning at Janaagraha and I know it will continue to be one. What may change in this process is that my experiences on the field will in turn contribute to the overall growth of Janaagraha and that's a huge responsibility which I willingly take!".
