Street Vendors

Street Vendors serve an important need in the city. Most households rely on travelling vendors or vendors at street corners for their groceries and general utility items. This is also an important livelihood means for a large segment of the poorer population. The vendors, however, need to have a licence to carry on their businesses and the Municipality issues licence to only those who have shops, which are on registered premises or whose shops do not affect the movement of general public.
However, it becomes a hassle when vendors want to put up a shop on footpaths, pavements etc. obstructing the movement of general public, especially in busy commercial areas. In Bangalore Street Vendors are mostly vegetable and fruit sellers, cobblers, and vendors selling utility items like cooking vessels etc., which also results in challenges in managing garbage generated.
