What is the scenario with respect to public toilets in Bangalore?
There are 38 Nirmala Bangalore Toilets out of 100 envisaged by BMP and BATF. The rest have been hampered by land disputes and the inability to obtain strategic public and slum sites.
Integriti India is running 76 toilets for BMP on a pilot basis, 25 Nirmala and 52 new ones built by BMP.

The Karnataka State Land Army Corporation constructed these toilets for the BMP.

Are these toilets pay and use?
Yes. Citizens will have to pay a nominal fee to use these toilets. The fees so collected, will help cover the maintenance expenditure of the toilets.
How does the BMP decide the location of the toilets?
The BMP undertakes an extensive survey of all the wards in the city and decides the location depending on the need and the floating population of the area.
What is the minimum area required for a toilet?
The minimum area required is 40'X10' which can accommodate 7 W.C.'s and 7 urinals, separate wash basins, storage area and an overhead water tank.
What is the policy on toilet facilities for construction workers?
It is mandatory for the contractor to provide toilet facility, separate for men and women, to the workers. These facilities are to be located on the construction site itself.
What about the existing poorly maintained toilets?
The BMP is also demolishing toilets that are in an unusable state. Residents may file a complaint with their respective Chief Engineer at the Zonal Engineering Divisions of the BMP and action to bring down the toilet will be taken.
Are there any other public toilets in Bangalore?
The BATF has built 25 Nirmala Bangalore Public Toilets in the city. Sulabh Souchalayas are community toilets built by Sulabh International. 64 toilets of these toilets are to be built in slums. These toilets are pay and use.
