There is a real need for careful planning and policy on the issue of parking. With 21 lakh vehicles estimated to be plying the roads of Bangalore, parking has become a prime source of concern for the citizen.
Pay and Park, a scheme that was started by the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) a few years ago, has been annulled since 1st April 2005. Parking fee collection was one of the sources of revenue to the BMP. However, recently the Bangalore City Traffic Police submitted a list of 91 roads to the BMP where they felt "pay and park" scheme is essential
