Civic Amenity Sites

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) Act describes a market, a post office, a telephone exchange, a bank, a bus-stand, a community hall, a police station etc. as Civic Amenities.
According to the Karnataka Town and Country Planning Act, approximately 10% of any residential development is to be set aside for Civic Amenity Sites. However there has been no enforcement of this policy. Private developments invariably monetise the maximum amount of land leaving very little in the way of Civic Amenity opportunities. As a result neighbourhoods are not provided with adequate public spaces and Civic Amenities.
