Now, one ministry for all “Urban” matters
The Central Government has merged Ministry of Urban Development and Ministry Of Housing and Urban Poverty alleviation – both involved in Policy making in urban areas – to form a Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The two ministries have a long history of mergers and de-mergers. The move is expected to cut costs and facilitate better implementation of housing and infrastructure projects.
Swachh Survekshan Version 3.0
The Swachh Survekshan 2018 has been kicked off, this time in a pan-India avatar, to assess status of sanitation in all 4,041 cities and towns of the country. The total weightage for Citizen Feedback has been increased by 10% over that of 2017 and a new element of ‘Innovation’ has been introduced with a weightage of 5%. The survey in its third version will rank the cities based on 71 sanitation parameters, thus capturing the efforts and outcomes under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban).
