Infrastructure that improves walkability encourages citizens to walk more, reduces vehicle usage, and thereby helps in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In order to evaluate the walkability infrastructure of Bengaluru, a survey was conducted across all the road segments of two wards: Banaswadi and Gottigere. A total of 689 road segments were assessed using 12 indicators across 4 broad parameters: accessibility, connectivity, safety, and comfort. Both sides of the footpath were taken into account while assigning the score. Additionally, the quality of pedestrian walkability was assessed using 5 indicators which primarily recorded the presence of footpaths and pedestrian crossings that enabled ease of access across the road network. This report contains findings and insights from the survey.
