Mr Das is a Member of the Governing Board of Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy. He retired from the IAS as Secretary to the Government of India. He completed his education from the University of Delhi and the University of Hawaii, and has been visiting fellow at the University of Oxford. He is a distinguished author of several books on governance.

He was also the Chairman of the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation and the National Productivity Council.
