VOICE OF INDIA'S CITIZENS (VOICE) SURVEY
VOICE is India's largest national urban survey covering 25,397 citizens across 21 cities in India where the Annual Survey of India’s City-Systems (ASICS) was also conducted.
Designed by Janaagraha and carried out by the research firm TNS Global , VOICE captures the pulse of citizens and seeks to understand their perspectives on their city’s Quality of Life and Quality of City-Systems.
The key issues which VOICE measures include citizens perception of ease of mobility and transportation, quality of environment, access to public amenities, safety and security, accountability of elected representatives and institutions, the quality of engagement with public services, self-reported household infrastructure indicators, civic knowledge, and civic participation.
The insights from the survey provide us with an excellent comparison to the ASICS data, and also allow us to probe into other key issues related to citizens’ daily lives in India’s cities.
Awards are given to city governments based on VOICE as we believe the survey aptly serves to capture outcomes of governance in terms of the Quality of Life as perceived by citizens.
