Bengaluru has an estimated population of 1.16 crore* and has 803 toilets across the city, marking a 60% increase from the number of toilets in 2017 (473). However, according to the National Guidelines set by the Swachh Bharath Mission (SBM) for Public Toilets, these cater to a floating population of 500,000 in cities, prescribing 1 toilet seat per 100 men and 2 per 100 women. Therefore, in order to assess the existing infrastructure of the public toilets and make a proposal for the additional requirement, a public toilet survey was conducted in 4 Bengaluru wards: Banasawadi, Gottigere, Dattatreya Temple, and Pulikeshinagar. A total of 22 parks were surveyed across 18 indicators and 4 broad parameters:
- Accessibility
- Comfort and safety
- Cleanliness and maintenance
- Complaints and grievance redressal.
This report contains findings and insights from the survey.
