India’s voter lists grapple with a significant issue – errors. These inaccuracies appear to be particularly pronounced in urban India, primarily due to the rapid urbanization and the subsequent rise in citizen mobility. While there is evidence highlighting the challenges within urban voter lists, there is still much to uncover about the intricate layers of Voter List Management (VLM) in India that give rise to these issues.
This study by Janaagraha, conducted in Bangalore and spanning three phases involving both qualitative and quantitative interviews, aims to shed light on the functioning of BLOs and how their actions may contribute to the errors observed in urban voter lists.
