Policy and Insights

It is important to continually stay informed, deepen our understanding and gain knowledge on initiatives, policies and best practices around urban governance and citizenship. Policy and insights endeavours to build bodies of evidence to inform our work on policy reforms and citizenship. Through primary and secondary research and data analytics, we build bodies of evidence on municipal, state, and national laws, policies, and missions.

Shaping India’s Urban Agenda

The Annual Survey of India’s City-Systems (ASICS) is a health diagnosis of our cities. It evaluates the quality of laws, policies, institutions and institutional processes that impact the quality of life in urban India. States are scored on a scale of 0 to 10; the higher the score, the better the strength of urban laws.

Enabling greater climate resilience and improved health outcomes

We attempt to work at the intersection of city systems and the thematic areas of climate and urban public health to enable the systemic transformation of India’s cities and towns. Our aim is to improve quality of life, especially for women and the urban poor, by improving the quality of city infrastructure and services.

Building an evidence-based understanding of urban India, its governance and citizenship

The Research and Insights (R&I) team, while operating as a strand in itself, also operates as a horizontal across all programs in Janaagraha. R&I supports all programmatic monitoring, evaluation and learning while also providing other relevant data, insights and thought leadership to support and further the mission and vision of the organisation.
