Children’s Citizenshipin Bengaluru

Limited research exists on how children perceive infrastructure challenges amid rapid urbanization and how these issues shape their sense of civic belonging. Moreover, Indian cities have yet to prioritize the integration of children’s needs into their urban development plans. This report aims to bridge this gap by analyzing the perspectives of 63 children in Bengaluru. Through a combination of photography and interviews, the study captures their viewpoints on the city, their concerns regarding infrastructure issues, and their proposed solutions. It also examines their comprehension of civic participation and assesses their belief in their capacity to contribute to resolving urban predicaments. Additionally, the report evaluates the impact of civic education on shaping children’s civic involvement, comparing those who underwent the Bala-Janaagraha civic education program with those who did not.
