Landscape Study on the Role of ULBs in Primary Healthcare
2023

Public health continues to remain an urgent challenge for our cities. The Landscape Study on the Role of Urban Local Bodies in Primary Health Care provides a roadmap for states across the country to strengthen primary healthcare outcomes through decentralization. The study is conducted by the Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy as a part of the Project ‘Transforming Governance of Primary Health Care’ and is supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The study focusses on Bihar’s efforts in the space of urban health, with particular emphasis on governance and the allocation of grants. Primary and secondary research is used to highlight the critical importance of ULBs in delivering effective healthcare related services to urban communities. The study also investigates the decentralization models of ULBs and their alignment with the National Urban Health Mission to offer valuable insights to states dealing with urban health in the face of rapid population growth.
