The Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy, in collaboration with the Bangalore City Police, has initiated a Community Policing program across seven police stations in Bangalore. To shape the program’s design and foster ownership among both police and citizens, a Security Perception Index (SPI) was conducted in these seven areas. The SPI assesses the perceptions of citizens and police regarding crime and security in their neighborhoods or workplaces, the dynamics between citizens and police, and identifies shortcomings in previous community-based security efforts, outlining the future mandate for the Community Policing program.
